GES1031 Culture and Communication in Singapore
This is the module that I felt the most mehhh about. This module was not my first choice. I got outbidded for a module so I had no choice but to chose this module.
They asked us to purchase the textbook. (which I did not really use)
Overall, I did learnt some useful and interesting stuff like power distance, differences in a collectivist and individualistic culture, role of culture on health... However, the amount of effort required from the project was just too much in my opinion. I would also prefer more application kind of questions in the exams rather than plain memorizing and regurgitation.
Assessment:
Midterms (20%)
Finals (30%)
Tutorials (20%)
Project (25%)
Peer Review (5%)
Expected Grade: A-
Actual Grade: B+ (bad project grades)
The lectures were pretty boring and repetitive. The good thing is the lectures are webcasted. Woots.
I will not recommend this module. The project takes soo much effort for only 25% of the grade. The tutorial component is responsible for 20% of the grades but we barely did anything other than discussing our project, so I am not sure how they grade us on that component.
The midterms and finals were MCQs and short essays. It was relatively content heavy as they basically test on the different theories. To score, you need to memorize. Because I was not really interested in it (unlike my life science modules), I found it hard to study for the module. I guess it is subjective, so maybe, you might like the module.
