GES1031 Culture and Communication in Singapore

This is the module that I felt the most mehhh about. This module was not my first choice. I got outbidded for a module so I had no choice but to chose this module.  The lectures were pretty boring and repetitive. The good thing is the lectures are webcasted. Woots.  I will not recommend this module. The project takes soo much effort for only 25% of the grade. The tutorial component is responsible for 20% of the grades but we barely did anything other than discussing our project, so I am not sure how they grade us on that component. The midterms and finals were MCQs and short essays. It was relatively content heavy as they basically test on the different theories. To score, you need to memorize. Because I was not really interested in it (unlike my life science modules), I found it hard to study for the module. I guess it is subjective, so maybe, you might like the module.  They asked us to purchase the textbook. (which I did not really use) Overall, I did lea...

GET1026 Effective Reasoning

This module was recommended by a friend. And I will recommend it to people who like MCQs and open book exams.  I would say that this was a pretty good recommendation from my friend. It was a relatively chill module. All the test are open book, which means you don't really have to study. The downside is tha t the bell curve is insanely steep and the questions are tricky, so I was preparing to S/U this module.  It is a philosophy  module  (something I have always wanted to try). Teaches you how to identify the different components of an argument, the different types of arguments and fallacies. Making simple things complicated. But you do feel slightly smarter after the lecture hahah. It can be interesting at times, but most of the time is was quite dry and technical.  The lectures were webcasted, but the LT is usually full. Why? Because the Prof gives quizzes (really pop). There are three throughout the semester. He gave o...

SP1451 Exploring Science Communication Through Popular Science

This was a faculty requirement so I was forced to take it. Initially, I was quite sian to take this module. You see I got a D for GP and had to sit for the QET test. So I almost had to take an English module, but I didn't. I was sooo happy. So when I got to know that I still had to take an essay writing module, it was like pouring cold water. So my initial mood was siannnnn. Then I decided that for some reason, it would be a good idea to have an 8am class. What even. Sian + wake up early = Recipe for disaster. But here comes the plot twist. I actually enjoyed this module. WHATTTT??!! I think I had a really good teacher (shoutout to Prof  Shamala Ramakresinin )  and classmates. Like if your classmates are th e  sian   sian   ones, then the lesson will not be fun. But my classmates were very proactive, this really enriched my learning experience. The teacher used to be a school teacher, so she had this motherly vi...

LSM1106 Molecular Cell Biology

The lectures are not webcasted. (SAD) This module started off pretty chill. The first lecturer (Dr Lim Yoon Pin) went through stuff you already know. (btw you don't need to memorize the amino acids since they will provide a table with the amino acids in the exams, waste my effort lol). But that is just the beginning. The second lecturer (A/P Deng Lih Wen) went through enzymes and the third lecturer (A/P Mok Yu-Keung, Henry) went through carbo proteins, nucleic acids, and lipids. Oh my... my brain felt so mindblown every single lecture. Trying to keep up with them was an impossible feat. To make things worse, there was no webcast, so I could not go back to replay the parts that I had missed.  The first CA was manageable since it tested mostly on the stuff of the first lecturer.  But the second CA. I don't even know what to say, it was a disaster. I made the mistake of overestimating myself and decided that I could study last minute. But I was sooooo wrong. The amount o...

LSM1102 Molecular Genetics

As the name of the module suggests, it is about genetics. (i don't think I am really helping here, just google and you will find information about the module) The lectures were webcasted. (YAY) I had a love-hate relationship with this module. The content can be quite interesting but the CAs are a freaking nightmare. The CAs are open book, and I hate open book exams. The thing about open book exams is that the answers are... NOT IN THE BOOK. Which means it is very hard to study for the tests. So I guess you just have to whack and hope that you hit the right answer. The last CA was an open universe test. So you can search the internet, call a friend, talk to your friend... I know, freaking ridiculous. So, as expected the CA was quite out of the box. The key to scoring is... make friends with genius and sit beside them hahahahaha. Jokes aside, it really helps to have some friends so that Y'all can discuss.  For finals, I was so thankful that is was MCQ. Love MCQs. There were 7...
